King Abdulaziz Medical City-Riyadh Becomes First Facility Globally to Achieve Stage 7 on Modernized HIMSS AMAM

King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh has become the first facility in the world to achieve Stage 7 on the modernized HIMSS Analytics Maturity Assessment Model.

KAMC had previously reached Stage 6 on AMAM in 2020 and followed up with a Stage 7 validation in 2021 under the previous version of the model. The modernized AMAM, introduced in 2024, provides a robust framework for evaluating and enhancing health systems’ analytics strategies, data governance practices, and the integration and effective use of artificial intelligence.

With this milestone, KAMC has now achieved the prestigious triple Stage 7 status across AMAM, EMRAM and INFRAM.

“King Abdulaziz Medical City-Riyadh has been working with HIMSS for 10 years, adopting the HIMSS maturity models to support digital transformation and continuous improvement,” said John Rayner, director of analytics at HIMSS. “The strengthening of data stewardship, analytics governance, and strategic planning positions the organization as exemplary.”

KAMC’s journey toward this latest validation was possible by a strong commitment to patient engagement and digital innovation. Initiatives included wide use of patient satisfaction surveys, measurement of digital tool adoption rates, and integration of medical devices into the EMR. The facility also improved its patient portal, enabling self-management of care and facilitating direct communication between patients and care teams.

The organization also made substantial investments in building an advanced analytics infrastructure, driving the adoption of predictive and prescriptive analytics and enhancing transparency and trust in AI-driven learning models. These steps empowered healthcare staff with data-driven decision-making tools, improving operational efficiency and clinical outcomes.

This global-first achievement on the modernized AMAM highlights KAMC’s unwavering dedication to leveraging technology and analytics to become a global leader in healthcare analytics and digital health transformation.
